Applied planning & management / Research in progress

A research project and an evidence hub.

This project examines drought, flooding, and nature-based stormwater solutions in Los Angeles County, with Measure W as the policy focus. Alongside the Sustainable Cities paper, the planned consulting deliverable is a website and research database, adapting the Ocean Evidence Commons workflow to LA County.

The data dictionary is drafted; the database is not yet built. The next step is to pilot the evidence structure against a small set of sources.

Is stormwater investment delivering?

Following post–Measure W investment from promised benefits to documented outcomes.

The research question.

For my Sustainable Cities project, I’m examining nature-based stormwater solutions in Los Angeles County: what the available evidence says about water supply, flood-risk reduction, and equity, and what that might mean for future funding.

The paper is the main deliverable. A proposed research database will support it by keeping claims connected to their sources, methods, and limitations.

Make the distinctions visible.

The database design adapts the Ocean Evidence Commons research workflow, separating design capacity, modeled benefits, and monitored outcomes. It also records how directly the evidence connects an outcome to Measure W funding.

Current stage: the data dictionary is drafted; the database has not yet been built. Next is piloting the structure against a small set of sources.
